Objectives
– To become familiar with the formal characteristics of a variety of typographic families.
– To learn the basic design principles and relationships of form and communication
– To experiment and utilize a reductive design process.
The goal of this assignment was to familiarize students with the type classifications, parts of letters, and terminologies (Carter, Day, and Meggs, pp. 29 – 46).
In this assignment, students became familiar with a reductive design process with typographic elements in which elements are gradually removed or altered without losing legibility. This process allows for flexibility and creation of strong shape and figure-ground relationships with type and geometric shapes.
